OnePlus 3, 3T's final update will be Android O

Android users with the OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T will be getting one last major update for their devices. The upcoming Android O has been confirmed by the company to be the final version of the operating system that will come to the short-lived phones. While both the OnePlus 3 and 3T are now discontinued, they were only released in mid and late 2016, respectively.

This is likely to come as a disappointing blow to OnePlus 3/3T owners, as the devices were only updated to, or shipped with, Android Nougat before this, meaning they're getting letting than two years of updates. The company revealed the news on the OnePlus forums, where it stated:

"Android O is going to be the last Android version update we'll release for the OP3/3T. We'll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates."

The only real good news there is that app updates and security fixes will still be made available, but it's not really clear what the "foreseeable future" means to OnePlus.

There's still no word on when Android O will finally debut from Google, but when it does OnePlus' Open Beta Program, which allows users to test new and upcoming features every few months, will also shift away from the 3/3T and only be used on the newer OnePlus 5.
