Oculus Quest and Rift S release date and order info: Starting now

Today Facebook revealed the Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift S head-mounted-display virtual reality headsets release. They've confirmed the ship dates on both products, and have prices set. Now all they've got to do is convince the world that such products are necessary, or at least enticing for the average young person with four hundred spare dollars lying around.

Below you'll see a video from Oculus about the Oculus Quest. This is a device that'll allow users to move between the mobile VR world and the full-fledged PC-based virtual reality world with what would appear to be relative ease. This video was first shown to the public back in September of 2018.

Most Oculus Quest details remain largely the same as they were back in September. Early reviews of the headset suggest that light leaks in through the nosepiece and that the headset is noticeably heavy. Touch controller battery covers were also mentioned by a couple of reviewers, as they seem to be noticeably moveable and/or loose.

Two versions of the Oculus Quest are coming to stores. One version is around $400 USD and has 64GB internal storage. The other version has 128GB internal storage and will cost users approximately $500. The Oculus Quest will ship starting on May 21st, 2019, and pre-orders start this week.

The Oculus Rift S connects to your PC to deliver all your PC-based VR apps and games. This device has Oculus Insight tracking and is connected to your PC with a single cord – much like the Oculus Rift.

It's like the original Oculus Rift, but without the extra sensors around your room. Also it has a better display and better built-in sensing of the world around you. Oculus Rift S is available for pre-order now through Oculus dot com (same as the Oculus Quest), and shipping starts on May 21st, 2019.
