NVIDIA SHIELD shipping shifts to July: it must be "perfect"

This week NVIDIA has made a rather important decision regarding the launch of their first Android handheld device SHIELD. Instead of shipping at the original announcement date (that was today, mind you), SHIELD has gotten a bit of a push forward to July in favor of a solid launch. The reason for this change is said by the company to be relating to a mechanical issue relating to a 3rd party component.

The update to SHIELD's shipping date comes not long after the company announced that they'd be lowering the price of the hardware from $349 down to $299, a significant shift down below the three hundred dollar price point. NVIDIA has provided a statement on the situation as well.

"During our final QA process, we discovered a mechanical issue that relates to a 3rd party component. We want every SHIELD to be perfect, so we have elected to shift the launch date to July. We'll update you as soon as we have an exact date." – NVIDIA

In the meantime, there are a collection of review units out there with publications, you may like to know, and SlashGear is one of them. What we'll be able to do this week is provide readers with a set of first impressions of the device as well as some hands-on action with a couple of games as well as a rather massive accessory: the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0.

While we've had some previous experience with the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 and NVIDIA SHIELD, we're taking a different approach this time. We've seen this setup through an HTC One and through Google Glass – now it's time to see it through a multi-camera setup and the drone itself!

Stay tuned as SlashGear gives you a full initial run-down of SHIELD and updates on when it's final launch will be occurring – straight through our SHIELD tag portal, of course.
