NVIDIA GeForce GTX 200M & GTS 100M series GPUs
We're already caught sight of it – metaphorically speaking – in Clevo's D900F 17-inch gaming laptop, but NVIDIA have officially announced the new GeForce GTX 280M, one of four fresh mobile GPUs. The GTX 280M apparently offers up to 50-percent more performance than its last-gen "enthusiast laptop GPUs", with support for CUDA and PhysX gaming effects.
The 280M is joined by the GeForce GTX 260M, GTS 160M and GTS 150M. Of course, having read NVIDIA's press release (below), we're now wondering why Clevo didn't bite the bullet and slot two GTX 280M GPUs in there, since the chip supports NVIDIA SLI.
NVIDIA describe the two GTX GPUs as for "enthusiast" notebooks, which usually means gaming or video crunching, while the GTS chips are for "high-performance, sleek notebooks" such as gutsy ultraportables. As well as Clevo, ASUS and MSI will be showing products using one or more of the GPUs; no news on eventual pricing, however.
