Nook 1.1 Firmware launches, most problems remain

The Barnes & Noble Nook is a slick device for sure. It proved to be much more popular than the bookseller expected leading to big delays in shipping the product this Christmas. A cool as the Nook is, there are some issues that need to be addressed and a new firmware for the device has been released.

The new firmware is 1.1 and according to the guys over at Gizmodo, it leaves all the major flaws of the device untouched. Giz figures not much has changed, one of the few things that seems to have improved is the speed at which the Nook goes from the main menu to the book you are reading.

The slow page turns, and other issues are still the same. I guess we can sit around and wait for the next update to come out and hope it addresses more of the major shortcomings of the device. If Barnes & Noble does things like Amazon it may be a year before all the flaws are worked out of the device.

UPDATE by Vincent: It's hard to tell if the firmware update fixed previous performance concerns.  I've got an email out to Barnes & Noble for a list of fixes and will report back when I hear something.  For now, I can't tell the difference in performance so the next best thing is to record a demo video for your viewing – you tell me if you see performance improvements in formatting and turning pages.
