Nokia Transport beta updated: new UI and smarter search

Nokia has updated its Nokia Transport app for Windows Phone, adding more intelligent auto-prediction of likely destinations, and a refreshed UI that promises to reduce the time you're glued to your smartphone screen. The new version of the app, a free download from the Windows Phone Store for Nokia's Lumia handsets, now prioritizes transport stations in its search results list, on the assumption that travelers will be most interested in those.

As for the interface changes, Nokia has updated its icon set so as to make them more immediately distinguishable. Bus, train, subway, and other types of transport now have their own icons, and hotels, restaurants, and shops each get new images too.

Swiping left or right from the app's start screen, meanwhile, shows previous destinations set within the app, for easier recall. As before, new transport information is automatically downloaded, and Nokia has mass transit routes and timetables for over 550 cities.

The new Nokia Transport beta is available for the Lumia 610, Lumia 710, Lumia 800, and the Lumia 900; it will unsurprisingly work with the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, as well. Nokia does warn that the updated beta may take a couple of days to show up across all Windows Phone Stores, however.
