Nokia Lumia 1020 price slashed at AT&T and Microsoft

The Nokia Lumia 1020 — Nokia's 41-megapixel cameraphone for the photographically-inclined among us — was given a price cut at certain online retailers this past week, bringing the cost of the handset down to the average rate found on many handsets with two-year contracts. Following this, both AT&T and Microsoft have both announced price slashing as well.

The discount this week had brought the price of the handset down from $299 to $199, the same pricing that is now being offered by Microsoft via the Microsoft Store and AT&T. The pricing requires a new two-year contract, with a 1-year contract boosting the price up to $449.99. And, as with many other handsets, AT&T is also offering the 1020 under its AT&T Next program, which pegs it at $27 per month for 20 months.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is tossing an extra incentive into the mix — a Nokia Camera Grip for the handset. Not surprisingly, you have to purchase the handset from Microsoft to get that perk. It's a limited-supply availability deal, however, and expires in a couple of weeks. The Lumia 1020 features a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p resolution and a Super Sensitive panel. There's Bluetooth, 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS, a microUSB port, and a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus under the hood.

On August 30, Nokia announced that the Lumia 1020 will be available for Canadian buyers via both TELUS and Rogers, giving the information in a brief tweet that hadn't specified the more detailed particulars, such as pricing or availability. The price cuts via AT&T and Microsoft are limited only to buyers in the US, but those elsewhere will perhaps see their own varieties of the deal.
