Nokia Lumia 1020 64GB version launched with Telefonica

Earlier today at the London O2 Arena, Nokia and Telefonica partnered to launch a 64GB variant of the handset maker's Lumia 1020 camera phone, a handset sporting a high-resolution 41-megapixel camera on the back. To meet the presumed storage needs of consumers using the handset as a camera, Telefonica specified a variant with twice the typical capacity.

Because of the high-resolution shots the Lumia 1020 can take, Telefonica anticipates there to be a demand for the higher capacity variant of the handset, allowing for more photographs to be stored at any given time. It was mentioned that because of the camera on the handset, it is likely consumers will use the phone as their primary camera, making such storage demands reasonable.

Said O2's General Manger of Devices in the UK David Johnson: "We work from the perspective of customers' needs. We're looking for higher, medium and lower-end devices to meet different budgets. But then we're also looking to be able to give people more choice and for unique features. Nokia Lumia has been very helpful in this regard. For one thing, it offers a different interface thanks to Windows Phone, at a time when the rest of the market is split between two choices. That's not very exciting for customers, so we were very happy to see the arrival of another choice."

The Lumia 1020 features a 1.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus processor and 2GB of RAM, with the regular variety having 32GB of internal storage space. The display is a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED 720p offering with a Super Sensitive panel, which allows for use with gloves and such. Connectivity includes Bluetooth and WiFi, and there's also a 2-megapixel camera on the front.

Details about cost for the 64GB version wasn't provided.
