Nintendo Switch games you can get today (with trailers)
So, you went to wait in line this morning and now you have a shiny new Nintendo Switch to show for it. Well done! Now what do you do with it? The answer for many of you will probably be "play Breath of the Wild," at first, because for a lot of people, that's the only launch game that matters. When we look at eShop and retail releases together, though, the Switch actually has a fairly decent launch library, so here's a full list of all the games available today, complete with trailers.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
This is the big one. Zelda fans have been waiting five years for this game, and most reviews say that wait was absolutely worth it. Make no mistake: If Nintendo comes back to say that the Switch had a great launch, it's probably due in large part to Breath of the Wild.
1-2-Switch
1-2-Switch serves as the console's Wii Sports, meaning that it exists as a way to show off the capabilities of the Joy Con controllers. This collection of 28 minigames seems like it would have made the perfect Switch pack-in game, but as it is, you'll need to shell out a cool $50 to take this home.
Just Dance 2017
Possibly the biggest retail release for the Switch this side of Breath of the Wild, Just Dance 2017 puts Ubisoft's long-running dance series on Nintendo's latest console from day one. More than that, it continues the long trend of Ubisoft being one of the largest publishers to support Nintendo's consoles from the beginning.
Super Bomberman R
This is, perhaps, the least-expected launch title for the Switch. Getting a somewhat surprise announcement a few months back, no one really expected the Switch to bring about Bomberman's return. With an 8-player multiplayer mode, though, we're sure plenty of people will be happy to see Bomberman once more.
Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment
Shovel Knight's latest DLC campaign, Specter of Torment, is hitting the Switch today, and it's in good company. It's joined by Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, a compilation that puts the base game and all of its DLC expansions (including Specter of Torment) into one neat eShop package. Treasure Trove, in other words, is perfect for Shovel Knight newbies looking for something to play on the Switch.
Skylanders: Imaginators
Not content to let Ubisoft be the only big publisher to have a launch day title on the Switch, Activision is entering the fray with Skylanders: Imaginators. Skylanders: Imaginators is a first for the series in that it allows players to create their own Skylanders, and the popular series should be right at home on Nintendo's newest console.
I Am Setsuna
I Am Setsuna has been around for a little while, launching on PlayStation 4 and PC back in July. A traditional RPG that reminds many players of classic Final Fantasy titles and Chrono Trigger, this is pretty much your only choice if you're looking for a JRPG to play on the Switch.
Fast RMX
An enhanced version of Mario Kart 8 will be on the Switch in April, but if you're craving some racing action in the meantime, Fast RMX makes for a solid stand-in. If you're looking for a racing game reminiscent of the excellent Wipeout series on PlayStation, look no further than Fast RMX.
Snipperclips: Cut it out Together!
If you want a good multiplayer title but you don't want to spend a ton of money on 1-2-Switch or Super Bomberman R, Snipperclips might be the game for you. This multiplayer puzzle game was one of the surprising reveal at January's Treehouse Live event, and at only $20, it's a nice little impulse game that can flesh out your Switch library at this early stage.
What about the rest of the launch games?
"Wait a minute," I can hear some of you saying, "the list ends there? Weren't there more launch games for the Switch?" Why yes, dear reader, there were in fact three more titles scheduled for launch day. Those three titles are World of Goo, Little Inferno, and Human Resource Machine, all made by the three-man team at Tomorrow Corporation.
While those three games were originally scheduled to release today, Tomorrow Corporation's Kyle Gabler told Polygon last week that they may not make it in time. That appears to be the case, as none of the three games are available on the Switch eShop at the time of this writing. They'll likely be arriving soon, so look for all three in the next week or two.
