Nintendo Labo VR mod prepares for Breath of the Wild update

In just a few days, Nintendo will be rolling out an update to two of the Nintendo Switch's most iconic games. That update will bring a new mode to Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda: Breath of the Wild. a mode that will let users see them in a different way. And what better way to see those new worlds, or at least Hyrule, than with a VR headset. Nintendo just recently unveiled a cardboard one. Fortunately, one eager beaver set out to modify that plain DIY box and make it an almost true VR headset.

Nintendo didn't go all out on VR with its new Nintendo Labo Kit. Intending, perhaps, to put a limit on how long you put the screen on your eyes, Nintendo didn't put a strap on the VR goggles part of the kit. Instead, you're expected to hold it up while playing.

As anyone who has tried VR before in any form will attest to, that pretty much breaks the illusion of moving around in a 360-degree stereoscopic world. That's why Jeramey Polcyn got to work. Not only did he he add head straps though, he even painted the entire kit to match the Breath of the Wild theme.

Fortunately for interested followers, he also made a video that guides others on how to make one themselves. It does require cutting out some parts of the Labo VR so consider this a permanent facelift. If you do manage to paint it just as he did, you'd at least have what almost looks like a device made by the Sheikah's themselves.

The Nintendo Labo VR kit is now available for purchase along with the Nintendo Switch experiences made for it. The update to SMO and BotW, however, won't land until April 26. Until then, we'll just have to imagine how Nintendo's VR experience will work with those games and hope that this mod will fit perfectly with it.
