Nintendo had two top selling game consoles in US

Nintendo is boasting that it has the two top selling game consoles of the entire year for 2010. The company has announced that the Nintendo DS sold over 8.5 million units in 2010 and that the Wii sold almost 7 million units. The numbers come from the NPD group.

A good chunk of those sales numbers for 2010 came at the end during December when holiday shopping is booming. In December 2010, Nintendo sold 2.3 million Wiis and 2.5 million DS portables. Add up all the numbers since the devices have been on the market and Nintendo has sold over 47 million DS consoles and 34 million Wiis since the launch of the devices.

Nintendo has also said that it has some of the best selling games in December with three of the top five titles. Those titles include Just Dance 2 (1), Donkey Kong Country Returns (3), and Disney Epic Mickey (4). The rub is despite the big sales, Nintendo still had a hard time in 2010.
