Nintendo boosts Switch production as pre-orders sell out

If you've been having issues pre-ordering a Nintendo Switch, then you might be pleased to hear that Nintendo is planning to ramp up production. Ever since pre-orders first opened up a few weeks ago, stock has been painfully slim. This doesn't just apply to consoles, either, but to games and accessories as well.

As a result, a lot of people who would like to have a Switch on launch day haven't been able to order one, as pre-orders sold through on the very first day in some places. Nintendo, for what it's worth, recognizes that this is an issue, with Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima telling The Wall Street Journal's Takashi Mochizuki that it will increase production.

Nintendo has just over a month to make as much stock as possible. The Switch is arriving in stores on March 3, which gave Nintendo less than two months of lead time between when pre-orders opened up and launch day. Indeed, a lot of retailers are hurting for Switch stock at the moment, with Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart all showing that the console is out of stock.

Of course, this isn't the first time that Nintendo hasn't been able to keep up with demand. The NES Classic Edition is still next to impossible to find, nearly three months after launch. Just as well, the Pokemon GO Plus accessory has had stock issues since it launched in September.

Beyond those two recent devices, who can forget the massive stock shortages for the original Wii? Those shortages persisted for months after launch, so here's hoping that the Switch doesn't share the same fate. With Nintendo getting ready to ramp up production, we can probably expect to see many retailers announcing pre-orders in the coming weeks – just be prepared to act quickly when they do.
