Nintendo admits servers hacked but no personal data stolen

Nintendo has confirmed that its US servers have been hacked, although unlike Sony's recent PlayStation Network woes, no company or customer information was extracted. Rumors of the infringement surfaced when the "Lulzsec" hacker group released what was claimed to be Nintendo's server configuration file, pulled from one of the company's US servers; Nintendo confirmed to the WSJ that while there had been a breach, it contained no personal data.

However, it seems Nintendo needn't worry that the unwanted hacker attention focused on Sony will be turned its way. Lulzsec subsequently tweeted that "we just got a config file and made it clear that we didn't mean any harm. Nintendo had already fixed it anyway. <3 them!"

Nintendo is "always working to make sure our systems are secure" according to spokesman Ken Toyoda. The company is expected to reveal the next-gen Wii at E3 2011 this week, its new console complete with rumored touchscreen controllers.
