Nikon Coolpix PMA 2010 range detailed: more super-zooms

Nikon's PMA 2010 line-up has gone public, and we're beginning to wonder whether we missed some memo about super-zoom cameras.  Like Fujifilm and Olympus before them, Nikon have pushed out some whopping great zoom lenses this year, with the Nikon Coolpix P100 getting a 26x optical and even pocket-sized point-and-shoots like the Coolpix S8000 packing 10x or more.Nikon Coolpix P-Series:

The new Nikon Coolpix P100 ($399.95, March) is the company's attempt at a super-zoom, with a 10.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and 26x optical zoom.  Nikon are pushing its low light performance, using an HDR feature (often found on DSLRs) to combine several shots and maximise cross-image detail.  It can capture 1080p Full HD video, up to 120fps stills (though only at 1.1-megapixels) and has a 3-inch LCD preview display.

Nikon Coolpix S-Series:

Nikon's S-Series gets the most new models, with four digicams added.  The range kicks off with the S3000 ($149.95, March), a 19mm thick 12-megapixel shooter with 4x optical zoom and the S4000 ($199.95, March), which throws in 720p HD video capture and a 3-inch touchscreen.  The Coolpix S6000 is 25mm thick and has a 14.2-megapixel sensor and 7x wide-angle zoom, 720p HD video capture and HDMI output, ultrafast-startup and 3fps rapid shooting (at 3-megapixel resolution for up to 45 images); it'll land in March for $249.95.  Finally the Nikon Coolpix S8000 ($299.95, February) has a 14.2-megapixel sensor and 10x optical zoom, 720p 30fps HD video capture, a new rotary control wheel and a 3-inch LCD.

Nikon Coolpix L-Series:

The L-Series gets two new models, the Coolpix L110 ($279.95, February) and the Coolpix L22 ($129.95, February) with 12.1- and 12-megapixel resolution respectively.  The L110 has a 15x optical zoom, 3-inch LCD, 720p HD video capture and can shoot up to 840 stills on a single charge.  Meanwhile the L22 has a 3.6x zoom, 3-inch display and runs off AA batteries.
