Nikon 1 J4 interchangeable lens camera arrives in compact size

Nikon has introduced a couple of new cameras this evening, most notable among them being the new Nikon 1 J4 interchangeable lens compact camera. With the camera comes several features, as well as bragging rights for being the world's fast continuous shooting camera when using auto-focus tracking.

Nikon boasts that its new 1 J4 has tracking abilities beyond that of a DSLR, as well as "advanced functions" that allows photographers to go "full-scale". All the while, the design itself is designed to be compact, putting it into a unique class that crosses the bridge between functionality and portability.

The camera offers 105 focus points with phase-detection auto focus, as well as 171 focus points with contrast-detect auto focus. This is particularly helpful for photographing moving subjects, a scenario that also makes the continuous shooting aspect of the camera particularly handy. For that latter feature, there's up to 20fps with auto focus tracking, jumping to 60fps if the AF is locked.

Auto focus aside, the Nikon 1 J4 has an 18.4-megapixel high-speed AF CMOS sensor sans low-pass filter. There's an EXPEED 4A engine under the hood, and a touch-enabled TFT LCD. As far as video goes, the camera can film in up to 1080/60p Full HD. Accessories will also be available, including a waterproof case.
