New NEC 26-inch MultiSync LCD2690WUXi2 with 97.5% Adobe RGB coverage

NEC has announced the successor to their MultiSync LCD2690WUXI monitor, the LCD2690WUXi2, with a much wider color gamut H-IPS LCD panel. The new 25.5-inch pro-level LCD screen now can cover up to 97.5-percent of the Adobe RGB color range, as opposed to the 93.8-percent the previous model could manage. The extension in color gamut will put the LCD2690WUXi2 toe to toe with NEC's flagship 30-inch MultiSync LCD3090WUXi in term of Adobe RGB coverage.

Others changes are in brightness and contrast: the contrast has improved from 800:1 to 1000:1 while brightness has dropped from 400 to 320 cd/m2.

The rest of the new display's specifications appear to be similar compared to its predecessor; power consumption is roughly the same, the panel response time is still 16ms (8ms G2G), and horizontal and vertical viewing angles are 178-degrees.  Screen resolution is 1920 x 1200 and inputs include HDCP-compliant DVD-I, DVD-D and HD15.  There are five picture preset modes, 12-bit LUT (look up table) and 12-bit gamma correction.

It would've been nice to see a higher resolution of 2560 x 1600 in this next-gen display, but unfortunately that's not the case. Let's hope NEC at least got the bleeding-edges problem figured out this time. The improvement in color gamut and contrast department should, on paper at least, tip this MultiSync as best value and performance pro-level LCD screen under 30-inches.

The new NEC MultiSync will go on sale in Japan from November 20, price to be determined.
