New DISH Hopper voice remote goes beyond mere voice control

If manufacturers and tech companies are to have their say, everything will be controlled by voice in the not so distant future. And not just simple voice commands, mind, but smart voice recognition backed by natural language processing and machine learning. But as easy as simply uttering your command may be, there are still some things done faster with a single press of a button. That's why DISH's second gen voice remote for Hopper DVRs brings the best of both worlds together for the ultimate user experience convenience.

It has been more than a year since DISH unveiled its first ever voice-enabled remote, joining the fray of companies who have found new ways to make life easier for their customers. The new and improved voice remote leverages advancements in machine learning and natural language processing to better understand what the user really wants.

Sometimes, however, the spoken command takes more than one word and a few seconds to complete. When time is of the absolute essence, the new remote offers two customizable buttons at your fingertips. Each button can be set to one of 12 possible shortcuts so that you won't even have to waste your breath for the most common actions.

Convenience isn't just about being able to do something quickly. It is also about being able to actually find what you need, which, in this case, is the remote control or its buttons. That is why the new remote features motion-activated backlighting so all you need is to pick it up and you'll never have to fumble in the dark again. And in case you don't even know where the remote is, a Locate Remote button on the DVR will make the remote beep a few times, betraying its hiding place.

The new DISH voice remote will be offered for free to every new DISH customer. Existing customers, on the other hand, can upgrade theirs for a $20 fee. The new remote is compatible with the Hopper DVR, Joey, Wireless Joey, 4K Joey, and Super Joey boxes.
