New D-Link routers work with Wi-Fi 6 and EasyMesh

D-Link revealed a new collection of routers and router-adjacent products today with the newest Wi-Fi 6 technology right out the gate. They've brought a new set of products to the market at CES 2020 with a mix of future-ready tech and super simple setup. "Most people don't want to fuss with their Wi-Fi," said Rayan Fakhro, product line manager, consumer solutions, D-Link Systems. "They want to grab a router, set it up, and go."

"Our new routers use D-Link Wi-Fi Mesh to remove issues with compatibility while providing the bandwidth and processing needed to reduce congestion and increase efficiency," said Fakrho. "They also include new enhanced profile-based parental controls that are easy to set up."

These products include such features as WPA3 encryption support and BBS coloring. With the D-Link Wi-Fi app, users will have D-Link tech support, including chat support. With some of these new products, users will be able to work with voice commands with Amazon's Alexa and Google's Google Assistant, as well as IFTTT.

Some of the routers D-Link announced this week incorporate the new Wi-Fi 6 standard, and all are compatible with mesh Wi-Fi "ahead of the Wi-Fi Alliance's release of Wi-Fi EasyMesh technology." You'll see in the list below which work with which tech.

The bit just before the prices in the list above show the projected quarters in which the products will likely launch. Most are Q1, but a couple have Q2 or Q3 projections. We'll see some Wi-Fi 6 action very, very soon! But wait, what is Wi-Fi 6 in the first place?

* This last entry on the list is the COVR X1872, a 2-piece router system. This system supports Wi-Fi 6 as well (802.11ax) and is clearly aimed at competing with the newest Google-made Nest Wifi system. The Nest Wifi system also utilizes mesh wi-fi, for the same price, but without Wi-Fi 6. The COVR system works with voice assistance too – as noted above – neat!
