New Avengers: Endgame trailer just appeared, and it's a bummer

Today is a big day for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as we've finally learned that the next Avengers movie will be titled Avengers: Endgame. That title makes a lot of sense given the events of Infinity War, and as you might imagine, the debut trailer for this movie steeped in despair. If you were hoping for a heroic debut trailer for the next Avengers flick, this definitely isn't what you're looking for.

Obviously, discussing this trailer will have some spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War, so if you somehow haven't seen it yet, you'll probably want to stop reading. Definitely don't watch the trailer that's embedded below, because it manages to summarize the major events of Infinity War in just a couple of sentences.

With that out the way, we can talk about the trailer, which opens with Tony Stark adrift in space. He records a message to Pepper Potts on a damaged Iron Man helmet and says his goodbyes, noting that he ran out of food and water days ago and will run out of oxygen soon.

Back on Earth, Black Widow, Captain America, Bruce Banner, and Thor lament their losses in the battle against Thanos. Things get particularly interesting in a little twist at the end of the trailer, but we won't spoil that surprise here. We even catch a glimpse of Hawkeye, who appears to have taken up the mantle of Ronin is his off-camera time.

The trailer doesn't really give any indication of how the Avengers will undo the damage Thanos has caused, but of course, we weren't really expecting it to. There was also no sign of Captain Marvel, and we probably aren't going to see her in any Avengers-related media until after her own movie debuts in March.
