Netflix orders 'Agent King' animated series about Elvis Presley

Netflix has ordered an animated adult comedy series called Agent King from Priscilla Presley and John Eddie. The show will feature Elvis Presley as a covert government spy tasked with battling evil when he's not busy being the King of Rock and Roll, according to the company. Both Eddie and Presley will serve as the show's executive producers.

American singer and songwriter Elvis Presley, who died in his early 40s in 1977, always dreamt of being a superhero who saved the world, according to Priscilla Presley, his wife until 1973. 'Agent King lets him do just that,' Presley said in a statement about the movie, also praising Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation, one of the partners on the project.

Variety reports that Agent King will be made in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, Sony Pictures Television, and Authentic Brands Group. Mike Arnold, a co-writer on the animated spy series Archer, will be the showrunner, co-executive producer, and writer for Netflix's latest original series.

In its description of the show, Netflix said:

Elvis Presley trades in his white jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to help battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves — all while holding down his day job as the King Of Rock And Roll.

Netflix hasn't revealed when the show's first season will be available to stream on its platform. The series will join other animated comedies from the company aimed at adults, including F is for Family, Paradise PD, BoJack Horseman, Disenchantment, Big Mouth, and more.
