Netflix inks deal with Adam Sandler for another batch of movies

Adam Sandler will return with a new batch of original movies for Netflix, the company has announced. Following the success of its first and second movie deals with Sandler, Netflix has penned another four-movie agreement that'll mark its third big partnership with the creator. According to the streaming company, Sandler is incredibly popular with its subscribers.

Netflix announced the expanded deal on Friday, revealing that its subscribers have collectively streamed more than two billion hours of Sandler films since 2015. The duo kicked off their business relationship with the premiere of The Ridiculous 6, something that has been followed by several additional movies, including the most recent Murder Mystery with Jennifer Aniston.

Netflix revealed that 83 million households streamed Murder Mystery in its first four weeks on the platform, making it the most popular Netflix movie in 2019 in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Singapore, Argentina, and the UAE.

In addition to the existing Sandler films that Netflix offers, including The Do-Over and Sandy Wexler, Netflix is also planning to launch a new Sandler movie later this year called Hubie Halloween. The comedian also recently released his first stand-up special in more than two decades with 100% Fresh.

In a statement, Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said:

Whether you know him as Sandman, the Water Boy, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Nick Spitz or simply Adam, one thing is clear: our members can't get enough of him. They love his stories and his humor, as we saw with Murder Mystery. So I could not be more excited to extend our partnership with Adam and the Happy Madison team and deliver more laughs around the world.
