NEC AS171 LCD proves being green is easy after all

NEC has already announced one new LCD this week called the PA241W aimed at graphics pros needing accurate colors. That screen had lots of high-end features and as a result had a high price tag as well. NEC has now announced a new budget LCD called the AS171.

The screen is a 17-inch unit with a native resolution of 1280 x 1024. Connectivity options include VGA and DVI and the contrast ratio is 900:1. The screen has a 5ms response time and the stand has tilt adjustability. The green features of the screen include an EPEAT Silver rating and Energy Star 5.0 as well as TCO 5.0 compliance.

NEC promises that the screen uses 21% less power than the model it replaces and has 50% less mercury in its design than its predecessor. The machine is set to ship in February for $159 with a three-year warranty. Kermit would love this thing.
