NASA wraps up the year with a catchy tune and 2016 highlights

NASA has wrapped up 2016 with a catchy tune put on video to the space agency's biggest highlights over the last year. The music is accompanied by a photo of a cassette tape appropriate dubbed 'Goddard,' a word referring to NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center located in Maryland. At only about a minute in length, the video doesn't even begin to detail all of Goddard's achievements throughout 2016, but it does offer a selection of the best ones.

The Goddard Space Flight Center is tasked with exploring the universe and solar system, as well as our own planet, doing so with various instruments and technologies, not to mention spacecraft. The organization boasts the largest collective of technologists, engineers, and scientists in the U.S., according to the space agency, and it is behind many breakthroughs and discoveries.

The video above features the song 'Illuminating' from Killertracks, in case you were wondering. The video points toward the launch of OSIRIS-REx, the space agency's first mission to sample asteroids, as well as Operation IceBridge for measuring Antarctic ice, the successful flight of a record-breaking super pressure balloon, and more.

Other selected highlights include Hubble's aid in discovering that the observable universe has a massive 10 times more galaxies than researchers previously thought. We won't spoil the rest of them, so be sure to check out the video, then head into our NASA tag portal for other news about the space agency!
