Mushkin Atom flash drive packs 32GB into the space of a quarter

Mushkin is a company that has been making computer memory and storage products for a number of years. Mushkin has unveiled a new and very small flash drive that reminds me a lot of the little nano Bluetooth adapters that ship with mice and other computer peripherals. The new flash drive is called the Mushkin Atom.

The USB connector is larger than the portion of the drive that houses the storage. The flash drive is so small you could plug it into the USB port of your notebook and leave it. The drive is also very fast supporting USB 3.0 allowing for faster data transfer than USB 2.0 drives.

Mushkin offers the Atom drive in three storage capacities. The drive capacities include 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB. The 8GB flash drive has read speeds up to 80MB/s and writes up to 5.5MB/s. The 16GB version supports reads up to 155MB/s and writes at up to 11.5MB/s.

The top end 32GB unit supports 155MB/s reads and 21.5MB/s writes. All versions of the Atom flash drive consume less than 1 watt of power under load. Pricing and availability are unknown at this time.
