MSI Wind Top AE1900 gets opened up

Photos of an MSI Wind Top AE1900 all-in-one touchscreen nettop prototype have emerged, showing the PC devoid of its rear casing.  Of interest to anyone considering modding their nettop, the images show a somewhat untidy setup but a few areas that could be tackled.

Whereas we're used to all-in-one machines being expansion no-go areas, the Wind Top AE1900 does at least have a couple of obvious places you could start.  The hard-drive could be readily swapped out, as could the optical drive should you prefer a slimline Blu-ray unit to the DVD burner fitted as standard.

There are also some more in-depth mods possible, for those willing to get dirty with their soldering iron.  As the photos in the gallery below indicate, MSI have left headers on the AE1900's motherboard without actual connections: that includes two PS/2 ports, down by the USB ports in the lower left-hand corner, plus two more RAM slots (MSI soldered the Wind Top's 1GB of RAM in place) and an RJ11 port.  Whether it's viable to add those components in for an Atom 230 1.6GHz nettop is in the eye of the beholder.
