Movado debuts first Android Wear watch with sleek, minimalist design

Like many other luxury watchmakers these days, Movado has announced it's getting into the smartwatch game. At the Baselworld 2017 watch event this week, the company unveiled the new Movado Connect. Powered by Android Wear 2.0, the timepiece features a nearly edge-to-edge display, along with a number of Movado's signature design elements, including the minimalist case design and the use of single dot where a '12' would normally appear on a watchface.

Among the few details Movado has so far released include that the Connect will come with over 100 watchfaces to customize the always-on display, and that it will feature NFC to support Android Pay. While the single button/crown on the side of the watch looks sleek, it's not clear yet if it has rotating functionality. Similarly, info on specs like battery life haven't been revealed.

Designed specifically with Android Wear 2.0 in mind, the Movado Connect will be able to run all Wear 2.0 apps, use Google Assistant for providing directions and completing tasks, connect with the Google Fit and Health services, in addition to displaying push notifications.

Movado says it plans to release the Connect sometime this fall with a price starting at $495. There will be five different men's styles available, with different straps and bracelets to choose from.
