Motorola One Macro is one Motorola you won't mind not being able to buy

Motorola is a name that stirs up memories of good old times but it seems that nostalgia is all that the company is worth these days. In the smartphone market especially, Motorola has failed to come up with new models that will enrapture consumers beyond certain one-hit wonders. Instead, it seems to have resorted to what other OEMs are doing and flooding the market with multiple variants of the same theme. The latest in that lineup is the Motorola One Macro and while it might never see a wider release outside of India, very few might mind that at all.

As with the Motorola One Zoom and Motorola One Action, the "Macro" in this phone's name tells it all. The highlight feature here is the 2 megapixel f/2.2 camera that has a dedicated macro lens. Given those numbers, however, it might not be even worth giving it a shot, pun totally intended. The rest of the cameras speak to its entry-level personality, including a 13 megapixel f/2.0 main camera and a 2 megapixel depth sensor. The front hides an 8 megapixel selfie camera in its notch.

The rest of the specs are by no means impressive either. The Motorola One Macro falls back to a Helio P70 processor with 4 GB of RAM and an admittedly generous 64 GB of storage. The display is large at 6.2 inches but the 1520x720 resolution could make you start noticing the pixels. There are no special features to this phone and the fingerprint scanner is a tradition rear-placed optical one.

The Moto One Macro does have at least one feature going for it. The large battery is rated at 4,000 mAh and could last your more than a day, depending on your use. Motorola's advertised 45 hours, however, might be a bit too generous. In theory, the company also ships with a pristine Android experience but, traditionally, it has also been slow at pushing updates anyway.

The Motorola One Macro launches on October 12 as a Flipkart exclusive in India. There is a small chance it might launch in the US later on but it will have a hard time standing out, especially if it doesn't live up to its own defining feature.
