Moto Z4 ODIN leaked as Motorola's next hero phone

The next major smartphone release from Motorola was tipped this afternoon in the form of a codename "Odin." This is the father of Thor in Norse mythology, and indeed the ruler of the 9 realms. Given the rumor that this smartphone has the ability to work with the Motorola 5G Moto Mod, it only makes sense that this would be the next-generation Moto Z. The last Moto Z was the Moto Z3. This next Moto Z is probably the Moto Z4.

The possibility remains that Verizon would use the Samsung Galaxy S10 "Beyond X" device to launch their 5G network. However, the first 5G data transmission made by Verizon was indeed with the 5G Moto Mod, originally intended for the Moto Z3. This newest device is tipped to have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150, which would indicate it'll have the Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem onboard for 5G.

As we're reminded by the folks at XDA Developers, Motorola committed publicly to "three generations" of Moto Z phones – I.E. three different devices that all work with the same Moto Mod connectivity. The same sort of hardware on the back. It might consequently be time to move on.

The source that revealed the existence of this device to XDA also mentioned that Motorola was working to integrate an in-display fingerprint reader. Not necessarily with this device – but being bound for any other device seems like it'd be a bit of a waste of effort. Put that good work to work in one perfect device!

As with previous Moto Z devices, it's quite likely Verizon will carry at least one iteration of this smartphone. The Moto Z4 with 5G Moto Mod might be the company's exclusive 5G smartphone for early 2019. Or they might just go with the Galaxy S10 Beyond X, or maybe both!
