Moto X Pure smartphones get graffiti treatment from artist Futura

Motorola has collaborated with an artist to make 30 custom painted smartphones. The artists is one Leonard McGurr, perhaps better known as the graffiti artist Futura. For this collaboration, Motorola provided Futura with 30 Moto X Pure smartphones and the artist used the phones as his canvas for a work of art. The smartphones were laid out on canvas or paper and then spray painted with multiple colors.

This isn't the first time that Futura has collaborated with a major company to create custom works. In the past Futura has designed products for Levi's, North Face, and Nike. The customized art smartphones have what appears to be airbrushed lettering on the back over a white background. Then the artist came back with stripes of orange, green, black, and red.

It's not what some would consider high art, but fans of Futura might want to check them out. You might expect that with the artist being commissioned to make these that Motorola would be selling them directly. Motorola wrote on its blog that some of the 30 unit series might be available still and gave the name and mobile number of a person to text to check availability.

If you find it difficult to live without one of these, you can text someone called Stefan at 646-759-0904 to check availability. Stefan's Head is a text-based e-commerce site for limited edition tech devices. There is no word on how much these phones will sell for. If you are unfamiliar with the phone, it has a 5.7-inch screen with 1440p resolution, 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 808 smartphone, and up to 64GB of storage. The rear camera is a 21MP unit. When pre-orders for the smartphone started in September of last year, the phone sold for $399.99.
