Moto Maker signature engraving feature for Moto X pulled for now

One of the Moto X's selling points has been the long-touted ability to customize it with a vast array of different color options, as well as getting a custom engraved "signature" on the back of the handset. Such is achieved using the Moto Maker, which we got access to earlier this month. Now word has surfaced from Motorola that the engraving feature has been delayed.

There isn't much information to go on at the moment, with it only being revealed that the feature will become available on the Moto Maker some time later on after the Moto X is launched. When that will happen, however, isn't yet known. What we do know is the why – quality issues. The feature is not up to Motorola's standards, and as such has been pulled until they get it sorted.

In case you haven't checked it out yet, we took the Moto Maker for a spin, which you can check out in our write up. Buyers will be able to choose from 252 different color options, first selecting for the back of the handset, followed by the front panels and then accent colors. After that point, one will be able to add a signature if desired – just not for a little while, at least.

While bad news for those who were hoping to have an unlike-any-other handset with a custom signature, the Moto X will still be launched at AT&T on August 23 as planned, and will still allow for extensive color-customizations. Hopefully it won't take too long for the signature engraving to become available, as well, and we'll be sure to update you when it does.
