Military Exchanges Still Won't Sell EA's Medal of Honor

Electronic Arts' upcoming title, Medal of Honor has been through the ringer a few times over the last few months. With the developer's decision to include the Taliban as part of the multiplayer experience, in hopes that it would instill the "realism" of war, groups all over the United States (and the world) raised their voices against the decision. And then, GameStops on military bases and Military Exchanges decided that they wouldn't sell the title, either. Well, EA and Danger Close decided that they'd listen to the out-cry, and they changed the title 'Taliban' to 'Opposing Force' in the multiplayer section of the title. But, it may have been too little too late.

The Army & Air Force Military Exchange Services Commander, Major General Bruce Casella said, "Out of respect to those touched by the ongoing, real-life events presented as a game, Exchanges will not be carrying this product." He went on to point that he believes military families that are authorized to shop at the Exchanges know that the AAFES has made this decision, and that are understanding in their decision.

So while EA and Danger Close may have tried their best to make everyone happy with the change, it looks like it just wasn't enough. Perhaps the fact that they included the word 'Taliban' at all has forever scarred their present in the market; or, on the flip-side, it could be that they decided to pull the name has marred the future purchasing decision from those who may have preferred the "realism" of the title, even if it were just in the multiplayer aspect of the title. EA has yet to comment on the situation.
