Microsoft's Surface Laptop tech specs released in full

This morning Microsoft took an unexpected turn and released a traditional notebook computer called Surface Laptop. This machine is traditional in several respects – it doesn't have a detachable display, it's not meant to be used without its keyboard, it runs full Windows – but it's also unique. This Surface Laptop has a Signature Alcantara covered keyboard and palm rest, Dolby Audio Premium "Omnisonic Speakers", and has a touchscreen display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to protect it.

In the paragraph below I've included images of all the specifications of the Surface Laptop. There are several configurations of this laptop coming to the public, while only a few – or just one configuration – comes with multiple color options. This notebook has some oddities about it, to be sure.

The casing on the Surface Laptop is Aluminum, and it's available in Burgundy, Platinum, Cobalt Blue, and Graphite Gold. But if you'd like to select your own color (other than Platinum), you'll need to read this: "Colors available on i5-7200U 8GB/256GB model only; available colors may vary by store."

Configurations include each of the following, for starters. Note that there are two categories, one with Intel Core i5, the other with Intel Core i7. All versions have the same hardware other than what's noted.

• Intel Core i5 Processor

• Color: Platinum

• 128GB SSD

• 4GB RAM

Several accessories are available right out the gate for the Surface Laptop. The Surface Dock connects the notebook 2 Mini DisplayPorts, 1 Gigabit Ethernet port, 4 USB 3.0 ports, and 1 Audio out port. The Surface Dock will cost $200 straight from Microsoft. Users can also get a Surface Dial which costs around $100, and a Surface Arc Mouse, which connects with Bluetooth.

For more information on pricing for the Surface Laptop, see the timeline below. This device appears right away to have some great amount of interest generated amongst the masses of laptop seekers that've been without Surface-branded options since the start of the brand. If that's what they want, it would appear that Microsoft is prepared to offer it to them.
