Microsoft Windows Phone Mango SkyDrive Updates Detailed

The frenzy that was yesterday's Apple keynote not only revealed the iCloud but also reignited "year of the copycat" comments from rivals. And just a day after, Microsoft is reminding everyone about their own cloud solution called the SkyDrive. The company is detailing all the new improvements for the SkyDrive that can be expected in the Windows Phone 7.1 Mango update.

Microsoft says that their SkyDrive and Windows Phone Mango has the deepest connection to cloud storage available on any smartphone. "Windows Phone was actually designed for the cloud from the ground up with SkyDrive," said Microsoft's Mike Torres. "The experiences you use everyday from your phone have a natural connection to your SkyDrive." He also points out that Windows Phone 7 users already upload 10 times as many photos per month to SkyDrive than typical users.

The SkyDrive improvements we can expect to see in the Mango update are:

Shared photos stored on SkyDrive via email, text, or IM – it's been convenient to store photos on the SkyDrive and share them with friends via the Pictures hub, but now it's even easier. Photos can now be shared with anyone over email, text, or Messenger/Facebook.

Share your video on SkyDrive – all the same features for photos now extend to videos. Videos will also be uploaded in the background so that you can move on to doing other things.Browse documents stored on SkyDrive – folders and files on your SkyDrive can be viewed directly in the same structure on your phone.

See what's been shared with you – with more than 70% of folders created on SkyDrive being shared, this feature adds a pivot view that makes it easy to see the complete list of documents shared with you. You can also open and edit them in Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.

Search your SkyDrive documents – search through all your documents via the Office hub.
