Microsoft teases IFA phone: "Selfie" Lumia incoming?

Microsoft has begun teasing its next smartphone launch, bringing a new model to IFA 2014 which could be the previously-rumored "selfie" Windows Phone. "Ready for more?" the Microsoft invitation asks, going on to suggest that press "join us for more face time" at an event on September 4th.

According to leaks back in late July, Microsoft Devices chief Stephen Elop demonstrated a handset with a relatively high-resolution front-facing camera during an internal presentation.

At the time said to be codenamed "Superman" though subsequently said by others to actually be known internally as "Tesla", the phone is believed to use a 5-megapixel front sensor, certainly higher than most Windows Phones offer, and be targeted at the "selfie" crowd.

Other rumored specifications are believed to include a 4.7-inch display.

Meanwhile, an earlier leak last month showed an unannounced Windows Phone with a rear camera assembly very much like the "more" graphic in the invite teaser. Resembling a shrunken camera module from the Lumia 1020, the circular section was not detailed alongside the premature photos, so resolution and other information is not currently known.

At the time, it was speculated that it could be the phone codenamed "McLaren", but according to subsequent rumors that 3D flagship was axed after Microsoft decided the technology wasn't ready for primetime.

SlashGear is headed off to IFA in less than a month's time, and we'll be bringing you back all the news from this year's show. As well as announcements from Nokia, we're expecting to see Samsung bring the Galaxy Note 4 out to play at its now-traditional "Unpacked" event in Berlin, Germany.
