Microsoft reveals which Windows Phones will be getting Creators Update

While the new Creators Update officially rolled out to Windows 10 users on the PC earlier this week, Windows Phone holdouts are still waiting. That will change on April 25th, however, Microsoft has stated that only a handful of devices will be eligible for the update. Even more disappointing is that Windows Phones that don't support the Creators Update will no longer receive future development builds from the Windows Insider Program.

Jumping right to it, here are the 11 Windows Phone devices that will receive the Creators Update:

- Alcatel IDOL 4S

- Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL

- HP Elite x3

- Lenovo Softbank 503LV

- MCJ Madosma Q601

- Microsoft Lumia 550

- Microsoft Lumia 640/640XL

- Microsoft Lumia 650

- Microsoft Lumia 950/950 XL

- Trinity NuAns Neo

- VAIO VPB051

These details come via a new blog post from Windows Insider chief Dona Sarkar. It's also noted that those in the Windows Insider program with unsupported phones not on this list are able to keep the development built of Windows 10 Creators Update installed, however at their own risk.

While many Windows Phone users are likely to be disappointed by this small list of supported devices, Microsoft explains that the choices were made due to feedback indicating that older phones didn't offer "the best possible experience" once updated to Creators Update.

Once the Creators Update is released for Windows Phones, those devices on the list above will continue to receive new builds from the Insider program going forward, including the first Redstone 3 build (15204), which was released this weekend.
