Microsoft Officially Announces Xbox 360 Price Cut (It's About Time)

Don't you love when a company makes an announcement that we already knew about? I'm not talking about the new iMac announcement where we were only pretty sure it was going to happen. I'm thinking of the price drop on the Xbox 360. We've already seen proof from several major retailers that the price is going down, so when Microsoft made the official announcement, it just wasn't that big of a deal. That's not the only thing they announced though.

If you hadn't already heard, the Xbox 360 Elite will be $449, Premium will be $349 and the Core will be priced at $279. These prices are official as of today. The other big news is that the Halo 3 Special Edition will drop in September. Yippie.

I'm still pretty apathetic about the Halo 3 box, not because I'm not a fan of the series, but because I think it was pretty pointless. How many people that aren't hardcore fans of the series are going to buy this? Now how many hardcore fans don't already own a 360? That's a very tiny market. Granted, you've got those people with a ton of spare cash that don't care about money and will buy anything that has the right logo splashed on it. I'm sure that these will fly off the shelves as fast as the PS3 did a month after launch.
