Microsoft HoloLens wants to bring new tech to NFL fans

Microsoft foresees a day when an NFL fan's favorite team won't be confined solely to their TV on game day. Microsoft wants to use the HoloLens to give football fans an entirely new world of interactivity with the game. Microsoft's vision for the future of watching football was unveiled at the Super Bowl 50 panel discussion.

The panel was called "The Future of Football: How Technology Could Shape the Next 50 Years of the Game." Microsoft shared a video that shows how fans in the future might use HoloLens to get a better look at what is going on in areas of the field and stadium they can't see on their TV screen.

The video also shows HoloLens giving fans stats about players on demand when the players are doing something on the screen. The lens also appears to put icons around the players the stats are for to eliminate any confusion.

Microsoft also says that the play could pop up as a 3D hologram allowing a view of the filed from all angles. Fantasy scores could also update in real-time without having to look at another screen. The video below shows much of what Microsoft foresees for the future of watching football at home. Developer edition HoloLens devices ship in Q1 2016.
