Microsoft boosts free Windows Phone app submission allowance to 100

Microsoft continues to lavish developers with freebies in the hope of boosting Windows Phone development, with the latest tidbit a dramatic increase in the number of free app submissions they can make to the Windows Phone Marketplace. As first revealed by ChevronWP7 developer Rafael Rivera, and later confirmed in the Windows Phone Marketplace Developer Newsletter, Microsoft has boosted free submissions from five to 100.

"During the past months we have been working hard to improve our overall Windows Phone Marketplace experience based on the feedback we received from you and our partners. We heard from many of you that you wanted a higher limit on the maximum number of free apps you could submit for free.

We've heard you and are pleased to announce that we've increased that limit from 5 to 100.

If you're having trouble submitting your free apps, please contact support."

The change should mean that population of the Marketplace should increase more rapidly from now on, with developers at greater liberty to submit free titles now that they don't have to pay for their inclusion. It might also mean a boost in quality of the cheaper paid apps, as free alternatives proliferate.
