Metawatch smartwatches aim for luxury with Vertu designer

The group known as Metawatch is now working with a man who formerly created designs for formerly Nokia-owned Vertu brand. This brand was notorious for creating massively-expensive devices made for those wishing to be extremely unique in their styling. Now the designer, Frank Nuovo, is bringing his same high-end tendencies to the little-known watch brand.

What you're seeing above is the current Metawatch – not to be mistaken with the Metawatch that'll be coming out in the (distant) future. Word from Metatwatch is that their next model with Nuovo will be shown off for the first time near the end of 2014. This watch will quite likely be priced out of the range of most ordinary citizens.

Meanwhile the likes of Samsung's Galaxy Gear and the Pebble smartwatch (as seen below) kick the smartwatch market in the pants, rolling out their newest models relatively recently and planning next generations through 2014. And let's not forget the Sony Smartwatch 2, already on a second generation here in 2013.

"I've been gnawing on (Nuovo's) ankle for several years. To me it's about crafting beautiful products. That's a word you rarely hear in the smartwatch arena – the word beautiful." – Metawatch CEO, Bill Geiser

Above you'll find Geiser's extremely brief chat with Recombu to be encouraging for those that work with Metawatch today and wish for some major change to come about. We must assume that Metawatch's next chapter will work with the smartphone world in new and exciting ways as well.

Based on previous Vertu releases, we must also assume that this watch will be well and above the price range of the common user. This watch will likely make all other smartwatches appear downright affordable, even those that cost several hundred dollars right off the bat.
