Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe is a sporty mash-up

Mercedes-Benz has introduced its new GLE Coupe, a sloped four-door car with a distinct sporty design drawn from "two classes of vehicle", according to the auto maker. Mercedes isn't shy about pointing out its SUV-esque features and notes, such as a raised seating position, while showing how they work in the grand scheme of things to improve the sporty elements integral to the GLE Coupe's design. Says Mercedes, "These two different worlds can normally only be experienced in two separate vehicles – an agile, thoroughbred sports coupé and an easy-going, comfortable SUV. But the new GLE Coupé is different."

The GLE Coupe features the Dynamic Select control system, something Mercedes-Benz says is complemented by the 9G-TRONIC transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Both Sport and Sport+ Dynamic Select transmission modes are offered, and the GLE 450 AMG Coupe in particular is designed with cornering in mind via a tweaked configuration.

The model also brings with it a new Airmatic air suspension design, which the maker says is available for the first time with the ADS Plus damping system. This damping system shifts as needed based on the Dynamic Select mode, and Mercedes-Benz promises it delivers "extremely stable driving". Under the aforementioned Sports and Sports+ modes, the GLE Coupe also offers an Active Curve System with roll stabilization.

The GLE 450 AMG in particular brings with its a turbo V6 367hp engine, 21-inch 5-twin-spoke wheels, a front and rear apron among other stylings, and the distinction of being Mercedes' first sports model. Stay tuned, as we'll have more details once the 2015 Detroit Auto Show rolls around.
