Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA strike partnership to make an AI-powered car

Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA have announced a new partnership that will result in the two companies working together to launch an artificial intelligence-powered vehicle. The duo revealed the partnership at CES 2017, though NVIDIA's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said the collaboration between the two started three years ago. "At this point it is very clear that AI is going to be the future of computing," Jen-Hsun explained. "This is an endeavor that we started three years ago that we will put on the road next year – unbelievable."

Though details are somewhat slight at this point, the team says that Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA have been focusing on artificial learning and deep learning specifically. The duo plan to launch its product "within 12 months," according to Mercedes-Benz President of Digital Vehicle and Mobility Sajjad Khan.

The two companies have teams working with each other — 'co-located with each other,' Mercedes-Benz says. Jen-Hsun teases that artificial intelligence is poised to 'revolutionize' the future of vehicles, but there's a notable lack of details about the product Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA plan to unveil this year.

Jen-Hsun said:

This breakthrough called deep learning happened several years ago, and it has completely revolutionized computing from the way you speak to your phone now to the way you take photos and upload to the cloud and how it automatically tags and hosts it for you.
