Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ updated with a 435hp in-line 6

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled a new performance SUV with the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ debuting. The heart of the performance SUV is a 3.0L in-line six-cylinder engine that makes 435hp and 520 Nm of torque. That gas engine is paired with a 48V onboard electrical system.

The 48V system can ladle in another 250Nm of Torque. In addition to the electric system, the six-cylinder engine features twin-turbos. The EQ Boost starter-alternator electric motor is fitted between the engine and transmission. Mercedes says that the car can reach 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.

To reduce turbo lag, the AMG GLE 53 has an electric auxiliary compressor that builds a high-level of boost with no lag to provide power until the larger gas-turbocharger kicks in. Power goes to the road via all four wheels, and the ride has an AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission.

Multiple driving modes impact shift speed and other factors that affect performance when active. The driving modes also adjust the AMG Active Ride Control air suspension with electro-mechanical roll stabilization.

The AMG massaged ride has a special radiator grille with 15 vertical strips to show at a glance the SUV is part of the AMG family. Buyers can option the SUV with a selectable performance exhaust system and AMG steering wheel buttons. The air suspension promises sporty handling and ride comfort; drive modes also include offroad modes for sand and trail.
