Massive 'sea monster' carcass washes ashore in Indonesia

The giant carcass of some creature being called a sea monster has washed ashore in Indonesia, stumping locals and renewing fear about the kind of beasts that may lie hidden in the depths of the ocean. The creature, which has been shown off on video, features pale white flesh that appears burnt on the surface, likely from sun exposure. Current estimates place the creature's length at a massive 50ft; no one knows the species at this time.

According to local reports, the 'sea monster' was found this past Tuesday near Serum Island in Indonesia, specifically in the Hulung Brach. The discovery was reportedly made by 37-year-old Asrul Tuanakota, a resident on the island who first thought the carcass was some kind of boat. Further investigation, however, has revealed it to be some kind of dead creature large like a whale but of an unknown species.

As shown in the video above, the carcass appears 'fresh' in the sense that it is still bleeding out and doesn't seem bloated. A couple of relatively small fins are visible floating on the water, as is one eye. The general shape of the creature is hard to discern, however, due to the gelatinous nature of the carcass. How the carcass is being disposed of is unclear.

Reports indicate that researchers are investigating the carcass to determine its species. At the present moment, and due largely to the creature's size and general shape, experts anticipate it turning out to be a whale of some variety. Initial speculation had assumed it may be a giant squid, but those assumptions have mostly been dismissed.
