Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR begin shipping out next month

In addition to officially revealing a new 16-inch MacBook Pro today, Apple also gave us an update on the incoming Mac Pro. Apple revealed the new Mac Pro will indeed start shipping out by the end of the year, but it'll be something of a photo finish as the launch date is set for sometime in December. The accompanying Pro Display XDR will begin shipping out at the same time, so those who have been looking forward to these machines don't have much longer to wait.

Sadly, Apple stops just short of giving us an actual release date for the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR. They were, in fact, just a footnote in Apple's announcement of the 16-inch MacBook Pro today, with the company only saying that they'll be available in December.

The Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR were revealed at WWDC 2019 back in June, and they're definitely the behemoths of Apple's product lineup, both in terms of capability and price. The Mac Pro uses Xeon processors with up to 28 cores and can support as much as 1.5TB of memory. The Mac Pro also features 8 PCIe expansion slots, so it's definitely a capable machine.

The Pro Display XDR, on the other hand, is outfitted with a 32-inch Retina 6K display that's capable of a persistent brightness of 1,000 nits and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. It also supports P3 wide, 10-bit color and can be covered in etched glass that gives it a matte finish without decreasing contrast. The Mac Pro and the Pro Display XDR are meant to go hand-in-hand, as the Mac Pro is capable of connecting to six of these displays at once.

If you want to own one or both of these products, you need to be prepared to drop some serious cash. The new Mac Pro starts at $5,999 and the Pro Display XDR starts at $4,999 – these prices are for base configurations, so if you want to customize your hardware, you're looking at paying even more. They'll be available next month through Apple.com, and we'll let you know when Apple announces a more specific release date.
