Mac Pro 2013 doubles factory RAM with OWC 128GB

This week the folks at Other World Computing have let it be known that they're not going to rest with the current Apple-given options for the Mac Pro from 2013. They're releasing their own OWC 128GB RAM, as it were, made specifically for the Apple Mac Pro 2013. This project will be entirely MaxRAM Certified and includes a number of RAM upgrades between 32GB and 128GB.

There's a number of different Mac Pro 2013 models available from Apple at this point, and OWC's options work with the lot of them. This includes the 6-core, 8-core, and 12-core models of the Mac Pro 2013. Have a peek at SlashGear's Mac Pro 2013 Review to see the 3.0 GHz 8-core Intel Xeon E5-1680v2 processor-toting model with 25MB of L3 cache and 32GB of 1866MHz DDR3 EEC RAM.

The 8-core model of the Mac Pro 2013 works with four 8GB chips inside alongside 512GB of PCIe flash storage as well as the top-spec dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs each with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM. Of course you can configure your own to do as you wish – that's just the model we'd been working with.

Apple allows you to push up to 64GB of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC through their online store. According to OWC, you'll be able to mix their 32GB modules with Apple's own 16GB modules, allowing you as much flexibility as you need.

• OWC 32GB Module (32GB x 1) $599

• OWC 64GB Upgrade Kit (32GB x 2) $1,149.99

• OWC 96GB Upgrade Kit (32GB x 3) $1,699.99

• OWC 128GB Upgrade Kit (32GB x 4) $2,129.99

Of note is the fact that the 128GB option is not available straight through Apple. OWC also lets it be known that while 16GB and 32GB modules for Apple Mac Pro 2013 are Registered, meaning they can be combined with each other, you should not mix them with standard 4GB and 8GB modules. All 4GB and 8GB models from Apple and OWC can, on the other hand, be mixed with one another.

OWC operates through their portal under the title "MacSales.com", and they've got more upgrade kits than you'll known what to do with. Have a dive down the OWC tag portal for all Apple upgrades back into the depths of time.
