Mac App Store tops 1m downloads in first day

Apple has announced that downloads from the Mac App Store have already topped one million, despite the service only being available for a single day. Launched yesterday, with more than 1,000 free and paid apps on offer, the store brings Apple's easy download system from iOS devices over to the OS X platform.

"We're amazed at the incredible response the Mac App Store is getting," Apple CEO Steve Jobs is quoted as saying. "Developers have done a great job bringing apps to the store and users are loving how easy and fun the Mac App Store is."

The downloads number is notable since Apple's launch wasn't entirely smooth. Many users reported problems installing the Mac App Store, and there have been reports of piracy issues with developers not following Apple's DRM guidelines completely.
