Logitech buy Ultimate Ears in $34m cash deal

Logitech continue their path to own everything capable of forcing sound into your head, with the acquisition of Ultimate Ears, the well-respected earphone manufacturer.  The $34m cash sale will give Logitech an instant entrance pass into the high-end audio market, where Ultimate Ears has built a business catering to professional musicians and audiophiles.

Ultimate Ears recently developed a range of iPhone and iPod earphones, aimed more at the mass market than their traditional customers.  However they are best known for custom or semi-custom earpieces, which can be moulded to suit the user's ear canal and cost up to $1,200.

The deal is expected to close this month.  No details of management or employee changes have been released, although the announcement did suggest a focus on leveraging Logitech's "worldwide distribution network and operational efficiencies" to drive Ultimate Ears sales.
