LG V20 Android 9 update available now in Korea

LG was once regarded as a dreamer, innovator, and good Android citizen so it's almost tragic to see its slow fall from grace. It needs, however, to be called out for its unimpressive rollout of Android updates, if only to urge it to do better. Some of those may have reached LG's ears and have, indeed, caused a favorable change. The company is now reportedly rolling out an Android 9 update for the LG V20 after it was believed to have abandoned the phone completely.

Some might regard the LG V20 with fondness as the last true V phone. The series, which started with the LG V10, was conceived with a "Second Screen", a small OLED strip at the top, as its main feature. The LG V30, however, ditched that and reused the Second Screen name for it really just a floating panel.

Earlier this year, it seemed that the LG V20 would no longer get any updates from the company. Launched in September of 2016, it came with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and was only updated to Android 8.0 Oreo last September. As far as the calendar goes, the LG V20 already reached the conventional two-year support period. Fans disagreed and, fortunately, LG had a change of heart, too.

The company made the announcement on a blog post detailing the rollout of Android 9.0 Pie for the V20 as well as what features it brings. To be clear, this is happening only in South Korean for now but, hopefully, the update will eventually reach other markets. Hopefully before the year ends, too.

It's probably too much to expect that LG will have any other update planned for the V20 at this point. The LG G8, on the other hand, is completely new but it will only be getting its Android 10 update later this year.
