LG UltraGear Nano IPS gaming monitor is the first 1ms IPS display

During E3 2019, LG took the wraps off its new LG UltraGear, the world's first 1ms IPS display. The gaming monitor boasts a 144Hz refresh rate that can be overclocked to 175Hz. The model will be offered in two size options, both massive at 27- and 38-inches. Key to both monitors is the blistering 1ms response time joined by gaming settings like Crosshair and Dynamic Action Sync.

The LG UltraGear will be available in two models: the 38-inch 38GL950G and the 27-inch 27GL850. Both of these Nano IPS monitors feature the 144Hz refresh rate (only the 38" can be overclocked) and DCI-P3 98-percent wide color gamut.

A number of features vary based on model, however, including resolution — the larger model has a 450 nits WQHD 3840 x 1600 resolution, whereas the smaller model has a 350 nits QHD 2560 x 1440 resolution. The 27-inch UltraGear offers HDR 10 and the 38-inch model offers VESA DisplayHDR 400.

The larger offers NVIDIA G-SYNC, whereas the smaller monitor is G-SYNC compatible, according to LG. The smaller is notable for its double HDMI ports compared to the 38-inch model's single HDMI. Both feature a single DisplayPort and neither have a 3.5mm headphone out jack.

LG explains that the larger UltraGear monitor has a 21:9 aspect ratio and was designed to boost the sense of immersion for gamers. This is made possible by the very slim bezels, curved display, and inclusion of RGB lights on the back called Sphere Lighting 2.0; the smaller model doesn't include the lights. Both models offer the aforementioned gaming settings, including Crosshair, Black Stabilizer, and Dynamic Action Sync mode.

LG will start accepting pre-orders for the smaller 27-inch model in the US on July 1 with rollout happening later in the month. The larger model's availability remains unclear.
