LG G7 Fit isn't dead yet, arriving this month

LG has been eerily silent on "spin-offs" of its premium G7 brand. In fact, there were only two, both of which may have been forgotten already since their first announcement pre-IFA two months ago. Perhaps trying to make up for lost time, LG is now making sure everyone knows that its LG G7 Fit is still a thing and will be coming to certain markets starting this month. And there might be some delicious irony in how the G7 Fit might have trouble fitting in anywhere at this point.

LG has a rather odd way of marketing the LG G7 Fit. It bills the presumably more affordable smartphone as offering the "most popular advanced features of the LG G7 ThinQ without the price." It is also targeting customers that are "interested specifically in high-end camera, display and audio features at a more competitive price point." Sounds good, except things break down easily once you see what it does have to offer.

The LG G7 Fit runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, a 2016 high-end chip that might already be outperformed by this year's mid-range Snapdragon 600 series. While the smartphone does boast of LG's new AI CAM features, it only has one camera to use it with. And it's a 16 megapixel f/2.2. one at that.

To its credit, the LG G7 Fit does have the G7's 6.1-inch Super Bright FullVision screen, including its notch. And as far as audio is concerned, it does have that much-advertised 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC technology. But if not for the branding, you might not have even thought this phone would be related to the LG's 2018 flagship.

It all boils down to what price LG has slapped on the G7 Fit, something that it leaves retailers and carriers to announce. The "affordable G7" will be hitting markets in Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East starting this month. And that's nearly three months since it was first announced.
